Vision Therapy Testimonial
“My daughter no longer experiences motion sickness on family car trips; she’s a much better reader (she’s more than tripled the number of Nutmeg books read this year compared to last year at the time!); she’s even improved at soccer, which she was always a good at, but now she’s even better!” ~ Joan N.
Here’s the transcript of the vision therapy testimonial above:
To Whom It May Concern,
My 10 year-old, daughter received vision therapy … for a six month period in 2012. We were first introduced to the idea informally by an occupational therapist that we met at a social event. I am grateful to that therapist for taking the initiative to refer us to Dr. Juanita Collier’s Behavioral Optometry practice, since it has benefited my daughter in many ways.
Before vision therapy my daughter had a series of seemingly unrelated symptoms that, even as an educator, I didn’t put together as being connected. Her symptoms included motion sickness and often losing her place while reading.
Honestly, we were all a little anxious about the prospects of vision therapy. I wasn’t sure how we would balance the time commitment – both in terms of the sessions and ongoing home therapy. My daughter was concerned about what an examination would entail as well as the prospect of “homework”. However, in the end we made it work and I’m glad we did. We cut back on some of our other outside commitments during the six month period of vision therapy, and the “homework” activities were things my daughter actually enjoyed and could do independently.
Looking back, the sacrifices we made were small in comparison to the benefits we’ve experienced as a result of vision therapy. My daughter no longer experiences motion sickness on family car trips; she’s a much better reader (she’s more than tripled the number of Nutmeg books read this year compared to last year at the time!); she’s even improved at soccer, which she was always good at, but now she’s even better! We’re proud of our daughter and her many achievements, and very thankful to Dr. Collier and her associates …
Sincerely,
Joan N.

Please note: In-office therapy under the direction of a Behavioral Optometrist using prisms, filters and lenses, as used with our patients, is far more effective than home-based therapy.
